14.5 kg of suspected methamphetamine seized at Alberta border

Border agents in southern Alberta seized 14.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine earlier last month, the largest confiscation in at least five years, officials say.

Border agents in southern Alberta seized 14.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine earlier last month, the largest confiscation in at least five years, officials say.

The drugs were found at the Del Bonita border crossing during a secondary examination of an SUV on Jan. 31

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers noticed something suspicious about the vehicle's rocker panels, which are on the side of the vehicle between the wheel wells and below the doors.

Inside, officers found 14 packages of the suspected methamphetamine.

A 40-year-old Calgary woman is charged with importation and possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as smuggling.

The CBSAsays this is the first significant seizure of the year in southern Alberta.
