Lethbridge College evacuated after bomb threat

Police in Lethbridge say they are investigating a bomb threat at Lethbridge College that prompted the campus to be evacuated Tuesday afternoon.

Police in Lethbridge say they are investigating a bomb threat at Lethbridge College that prompted the campus to be evacuated Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly before noon on Tuesday, officers responded to a report that Lethbridge College had received an email containinga bomb threat,according to a news release from the Lethbridge Police Service.

Lethbridge College evacuated its campus and student residences as"a precautionary measure," but police say no evidence suggests the threat was credible or thatthe college community was at risk.

The release says the investigation has determined that the emailmay have originated from overseas. The investigation is ongoing.

The campus has been closed for the rest of the day and the college advised students to check its website and social media channels "for the status of operations tomorrow,"according to a message posted on the college's website.

"Everyone on campus should pack up their belongings and leave in an orderly manner," the message says."If you are not on campus, please avoid campus for the rest of the day."

Students who live in residence were allowed to return to their units around 3 p.m., police said.

Police have liaised with law enforcement agencies in other jurisdictions where there have been numerous similar incidents that have been unfounded.
