3 taken to hospital after car smashes into KFC restaurant in Calgary

Police say a car smashed into a KFC restaurant in southwest Calgary shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.

EMS transported 2 adults, one in critical condition, and an infant to hospital

Two adults and an infant were taken to hospital after a car smashed intoa KFC restaurant in southwest Calgary shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.

The grey Honda crashed through a construction barrier and the front wall of the restaurant before coming to a stop fully inside the building.

The restaurant is located at 17th Avenue and 12th Street S.W., and a portion of the road was closed while emergency crews responded.

EMS said the driver of the car was assessed on scene and was not injured.

Two adults and an infant who were inside the restaurant were taken to hospital: a 33-year-old man in critical, life-threatening condition, later upgraded to stable condition;a 30-year-old woman in stable condition; and an eight-month-old baby who was unhurt, but will be monitored.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash. No information was immediately available as to whether or not charges would be laid.

It's the second time in one month a vehicle has crashed into a restaurant in the neighbourhood.

In mid-July, a car crashed into Trio restaurant at 15th Street and 16th Avenue S.W. Nobody was hurt in that incident.
