Kevin Roy Gladue gets 6 years for attack on woman near Rocky Mountain House

A man convicted of attacking a woman who ran into the central Alberta bush to escape, and was lost for nearly two weeks, has been sentenced to six years in prison.

A woman who was lost in the woods for 12 daystrying to escape the man whoattacked her, saw him sentenced to six years in prison today.

Kevin Roy Gladue, 38, wasconvicted by ajury in Red Deer of the aggravated sexual assault ofa 25-year-old woman in July 2013.

The pair had been offroading near the O'Chiese First NationbyRocky Mountain House when the truck they were in got stuck. Other passengers left to go get help and the victim fell asleep in the back seat.

She woke up to find Gladue pulling her pants down.The woman tried to run awaybut Gladue chased her and struck her in the face with an object.She ran into the nearby woods to escape him but got lost and wasn't found for 12 days.

When she was found, the victim hadsuffered significant weight loss by existing on berries, and water from the river and was nursing a broken jaw.

'She's not out of the woods'

"Even though she came out of the forest ... she's not out of the woods," said JusticeKirkSissonof victim's lasting physical andmental injuries.

She lost teeth in the attack and has undergone surgeries to repair her jaw.

'[The victim] will literally and figuratively bear herscars for the rest of her life," said Sisson who called the assaulta "brutal and unprovoked attack on a young woman who was vulnerable and alone."

Gladue will get 10 months credit for the time he's already served.

Sisson also ordered Gladue pay the victim nearly $9,000 in restitution.
