Random traffic stops find 2 drivers at 3 times the legal limit

Pulling over random cars in Okotoks led to impaired driving charges and licence suspensions against five people, including two who police said were almost three times over the legal limit.

Okotoks RCMP conducted random traffic stops, resulting in impaired driving charges against five people.

The stops were made by RCMPbetween July 22-24.

A25-year-old man and 55-year-old woman were charged with impaired driving. Police said both drivers had a blood alcohol level of .220, which is nearly three times the legal limit of .08.

Two men also had their licences suspended for 72 hours while anotherman had his licence suspended for 30 days under the province's zero tolerance program for novice drivers.

Police said checkstops are also planned for the August long weekend.
