Girl helps feed hungry Calgary kids over the summer

A Calgarymother and daughter helped feed hungry kids this summer, delivering 30,000 meals.

The projectstarted two years ago when 12-year-oldSutton Garner realized there was a gap during the summer breakfor the 3,000 Calgarychildren who relyon subsidized school nutrition programs.

She says she has a lot of empathy for peers who don't have easy access to food.

The project started two years ago when 12-year-old Sutton Garner realized there was a gap during the summer break for the 3,000 Calgary children who rely on subsidized school nutrition programs.

"I like helping people who are my age. I like being able to make the connections [with people] who are my age," she said.

I Can For Kids was created by Garner and her mom, Bobbi Turko,with help from donations.

Volunteers make food hampers with each one containing three meals and a snack.
