HIV-positive man charged with sexual assault

A Calgary man has been charged with several counts of aggravated sexual assault, allegedly for having unprotected sex without telling his partner he was HIV positive.

A Calgary man has been charged with several counts of sexual assault, allegedly for having unprotected sex without telling his partner he was HIV positive.

Paul Thomson, 32, is in custody and charged with 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault. He is also charged with one count of theft, onallegations he stolea bank card.

Thewoman who Thomson isaccused ofassaultingtold police she wasn't informed ofhis medical condition, Red Deer RCMP said Friday in a release.

"In the Criminal Code of Canada, the definition of aggravated sexual assault includes endangerment of life, and that exposure to HIV may endanger life," police said.

Thomsonwas set to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Friday.

On July 15, Calgary police asked for the public's help to find Thomson, who they described as amissing manof "diminished capacity."

RCMP in Red Deer began their investigation into the sexual assault allegationson July 29.
