Grass fire south of Oyen under control

An out-of-control grassfire burning south of Oyen, Alta., is now under control, with one farm house and some nearby buildings destroyed.

A grass fire south of Oyen, Alta.,is now under control, CBC News has learned.

The province says one farm house and its buildings were destroyed. Fire crews are still at work on hot spots.

The grass fire promptedthe evacuation of 15 rural homes.

Late Monday night, theRCMPin Oyen, near the Saskatchewan border, were asked by the fire department to help evacuate rural residences due to the out-of-control grass fire. It wasburning about 120 kilometressouth ofOyen along the the north bank of the South Saskatchewan River.

No injuries have been reported, and no densely populated areas threatened.

A local state of emergency is still in effect for Special Area No. 2, east and south of Hanna to the Red Deer River.

Oyenis about 300 kilometres east of Calgary.
