Lethbridge apartment building fire that spread to the roof displaces all residents

A fire at aLethbridgeapartment complex that spread from the second floor to the roof has displacedevery resident in the building.

Fire officials say the Friday morning blaze affected 36 suites

A fire at a Lethbridge apartment complex that spread from the second floor to the roof Friday has displaced every resident in the building.

Four fire stations responded to the blazeat West Highlands Boulevardshortly before 8 a.m.

The flames werefully extinguished shortly after 10a.m.but all 36 units were affected, said a release.

One firefighter was taken to hospital for precautionary measuresbut isin stable condition.

Crews say the fire startedon a second floor balcony, then spreadto the third floor and attic of the apartment complex.

Residents were safely evacuated from the building but are now unable to returnafter theheavyfire, smoke and water damage.

The City of Lethbridge,alongwith Alberta Health Services and Canadian Red Cross, arranged medical needs, transportation and lodging for residents on scene. Anyone who left immediately after evacuationcan receive support through the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but anyone with information or who may have early videos of the fire is asked to contact the Lethbridge FirePrevention Bureauat 403-320-3811 orfireprevention@lethbridge.ca.
