Fire ban issued for Calgary

Dry and windy conditions prompted Calgary officials to issue a Level 3 fire ban Friday afternoon.

No open flames allowed with the exception of internal household fireplaces and liquid fuel barbecues

Calgary fire officials are reminding residents to not dispose of any smoking materials near grasslands or natural areas. (CBC)

The fire department says the dry fall grasses combined with expectedwinds of up to 80 kilometres perhour on Saturdayhaveraised the fire risk.

Crewsalready battled several grass fires in the city today.

The fire ban includes all open flames with the exception of household fireplaces and propane and natural gas barbecues.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind all Calgarians to exercise extreme caution with all potential ignition sources and tonot dispose of smoking material near grasslands or natural areas at anytime.
