Garage fire in southeast Calgary extinguished

Crews were called to a residence in Radisson Heights Tuesday morning to put out a garage and shedfire that generated plumes of smoke visible from blocks away.

A passerbynoticed theblazeat2819 11th Avenue S.E. at about 8:40 a.m.The residents were sleeping as firefighters arrived to battle the fire.

The dark smoke prompted the firstcrewon scene to call for an additional engine.

Crews quickly put out the fire before any adjacent homes were damaged. Both the garage and the shed next to it were extensively damaged.A vehicle inside the garage was alsobadly damaged.

There were no injuries,officials say.

Nearby houseswere evacuated over concerns about a gas leak, but residents wereallowed to return to theirhomes by about 9:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
