Calgary police say two people detained in the death of a man found shot in a northwest alley have been released but remain suspects.

Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta with the homicide unit said the two are "involved in a criminal lifestyle and connected to the drug trade."

He said police do not know if there was any connection between the suspects and the victim, 34-year-old Jordan Moore.

Moore was found shot in an alley behind the 100-block of 15th St. N.W. around 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday. He was taken to hospital and later died.

Moore's family says he was out for a typical evening walk.

"Though details are limited due to the ongoing police investigation, what we have been advised of is that while on his walk, Jordan saw an altercation and intervene[d] on behalf of someone in need,"his brother, Jason Moore, said in a statement to CBC News Wednesday.

Police would not confirm or denythat narrative, saying the investigation is ongoing, but Schiavetta did say they understand Moore was an avid walker and that he lived in the community.

"In speaking to people who live in that community, we have reports of multiple gunshots," he said.
