Family of toddler who died from day home injuries speaks

The parents of 21-month-old Mackenzy Woolfsmith, who died after sustaining serious injuries in a private Calgary day home, are asking for privacy while police investigate.

The younggirl was taken off life support onFriday night after beingfound unconscious and not breathing on Wednesday afternoon.Shehad been taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police were originally told the young girl had fallen down some stairs. The homicide unit is now investigating and an autopsy is set for early next week.

"We recognize that everyone wants answers, and so do we, but please allow the investigative process to be completed before jumping to conclusions about the circumstances around the accident," the Woolfsmith family stated in a release.

Family members said theyare so proudof their little girl, who became an organ donor after she died.

"With her generous donation, four babies now have chances at amazing lives," they said in the release.

"She brought so much happiness to so many people during her short time with us, she loved to share and this was her biggest gift. Please consider being an organ donor, it really does save lives."

The family is now askingfor privacyso they can grieve during this difficult time.
