Exshaw calls for more flood cleanup volunteers

The flood-ravaged hamlet of Exshaw, west of Calgary, is putting out the call for more volunteers.

There is still a lot of cleaning to do as150 out of 200 homes in the mountain community are deluged with mud and silt, said Municipal District of Bighorn spokesperson Mandie Crawford.

"Sometimes interest falls off because they think it looks like it's almost done, but there's so much to be done it's going to take a long time," she said.

Reeve Dene Cooper said the community is very thankful for the 300 people who have already helped.

Now officials are asking people to call ahead so that the remaining work can be organized.

"It doesn't take long to register and it is a very important process for us and I think we will be able to keep the volunteers more than busy," he said.

Since the flood, more than50 loads of debris have been hauled out of Bob Collinss yard. He said hes grateful for the help he has received.

"If anyone's not doing anything, the more the merrier and lots of hands make light work, so absolutely we won't turn anyone away," he said.
