A months-long drug trafficking probe ended last week with a bust at a house in southwest Calgary, prompting two suspects to take off on foot, tossing drugs as they ran, police allege.

The operation started in July when Calgary police got a tip that cocaine dealers were operating from a residence in the Forest Lawn area.

OnOct. 26, officers raided residences in the 1200 block of 44th Street S.E. in Forest Lawn, and the 600 block of 68th Avenue S.W. in Kingsland.

Two suspects at the house on 68th Avenue fled on foot while they attempted to discard drugs, police said in a release.

But they were quickly rounded up with help from members of the gang suppression and canine units.

Two other suspects were arrested without incident. A fifth man was also arrested during the course of the investigation, police say.

More than 93 grams of cocaine, 61 pills of fentanyl worth an estimated $1,220, a stolen .40-calibre Beretta handgun and $12,300 in cash was found in the home.

Five men, ranging in age from 19 to 23 years old, face a total of 55 charges under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
