Don't touch baby hares, say wildlife rescuers

"If you see a baby hare, please leave it there," saysthe Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society.

The society says it has been inundated with calls from concerned Calgarians who are spotting baby hares left alone.

According to the society, hares are born fully furred with their eyes open and they can hop around within hours of birth.

It's common for hares to leave their young for long periods of time under bushes and in the grass where they are protected from predators becausebaby hares have no scent.

Most baby hares are not orphaned and experts say they have the best chance of survival with their own mothers.

The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society has received 10baby hares in the past two days and is asking people to leave all uninjured baby hares where they are found.
