Derek Saretzky fit to stand trial: mother of Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette

Derek Saretzky has passed a psychiatric assessment and is fit to stand trial in the death of two-year-old Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette and her father, the girl's mother Cheyenne Dunbar tells CBC News late Wednesday.

Derek Saretzkyhas passed a psychiatric assessment and is fit to stand trial in the death oftwo-year-oldHailey Dunbar-Blanchette and her father Terry Blanchette, the girl's motherCheyenne Dunbar tells CBC News late Wednesday.

Dunbar says RCMP called her Wednesday with the news.

Saretzky's case is in court Thursday with two murder charges in the deaths ofHailey and her fatherTerryBlanchette.Hefaces a separate charge of committing an indignity to the little girl's body.

The body ofTerryBlanchette, 27,was discoveredin his home inBlairmore, in theCrowsnestPass, in September.

Hailey was discovered a day later in a rural area after anAmber Alertstretched across Western Canada and into the United States.

Saretzkywas ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessmentat ahearing in September but court was told the 30-day mental review he hadbeen undergoing was not sufficient and another month was needed.
