The death of a three-year-old girlwho was seriously injured in a northeast Calgary home is being treated as a possible homicide, with police saying her mother and the mother's boyfriend are the only two people under investigation.

EMS and police were called to ahome in the 5300 block ofRundlehornDrive N.E. inPineridgeon Sept. 27 for reports of a girl in medical distress, police said on Wednesday.

Ivy Wick, 3, was taken to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition and wastaken off life support on Oct. 5.

However, police said Wednesday that the GoFundMe page's description of how Ivy was injured didn't correspondwith the evidence.

The doctorswho assessedIvyupon her arrival at hospital did not believe her injuries to be consistent with a fall of any kind, police said.

"You can very quickly see the difference between injuries from a fall,"Insp. PaulWozneytold media at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

"I can say that these injuries were there was no question that these injuries were significant and led to her death."

The child abuse unit led the investigation initially, but the case has now been handed over to homicide detectives.

Further tests pending

"Detectives do not believe Ivy's death was random, and with most child suspicious deaths, investigators are focused on those individuals who had access to her on the day she suffered the injuries," the release said.

At the time of Ivy's injury, she was living with her mother and her mother's boyfriend, who is not Ivy's biological father, police said.

Police did not namethe mother or her boyfriend.

The death has not been ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where further test results are pending but the case is being investigated as a possible homicide.

Several people interviewed

Wozneytold media that this case has been tough on investigators.

"The investigators that are involved in this, every single one of them has children. Some of them have children the same age as this young girl. Sometimes we can put a filter on and try and block that out, but other times it's very difficult to do that," he said.
