3rd murder trial ordered for Calgary prostitute who fatally stabbed client

A former prostitute twice convicted of murdering a client in his home will go to trial a third time. Crystal Crowchild was originally charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Aref Selman Nassereddine, 64, in his Rosscarrock home in 2010.

A former prostitute twice convicted of murdering a client in his Calgary homewill go to trial a third time after a successful appeal.

Crystal Crowchild was originally charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Aref Selman Nassereddine, 64, in his home in the Rosscarrock neighbourhood in 2010.

Crowchild was first convicted of murder in 2013, butthe Alberta Court of Appeal overturned the rulingand ordered a new trial. A jury convicted her for a second time in February2016.

Defence lawyerAlias Sanders appealed a second time and, on Wednesday, the higher court ordered a third trial.

Body discovered by wife, daughter

Nassereddine's body was discovered by his wife and six-year-olddaughter in March2010.

Crowchild who was 25 years old at the time admitted to stabbing her client but has always claimed self defence.

The two had sex but Nassereddine wanted more, andCrowchild refused, she told police. He followed her downstairs where she stabbed him several times.

After she was convicted last year, Crowchild was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 10 years.

No date for a retrial has been set.
