49 people vaccinated in south Calgary last week may have been exposed to COVID-19

Some people vaccinated for coronavirus at the South Calgary Health Centre last week may have been exposed to the virus, as a health-care worker at the site has since tested positive for COVID-19.

Alberta Health Services is asking anyone who visited the centre to be immunized on March 23 or March 25 to book a COVID-19 test as a precautionary measure.

AHS said the worker was at the site between 8 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on March 23, and 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on March 25.

The agency is reaching out to the 49 people who had appointments at the time, and only those who are contacted by Health Link will require testing out of an abundance of precaution, AHS said.

"Risk of exposure is believed to be low due to the continuous and correct use of PPE at the site, as well as the strict COVID-19 safety protocols in place," read the release from AHS.

A total of 608,032 vaccine doses have been administered so far across Alberta, and 97,561 people are fully immunized.
