Woman charged in 'random' Chinook Centre stabbings

Calgary police have charged a woman in three stabbingsattacks near Chinook Centre mall Thursday evening.

Nina Nepinak, 30, has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault and three counts of assault with a weapon, police said in a release Friday afternoon.

Police said that at approximately 8:20 p.m. Thursday, a woman attended a restaurant in the 5800 block of Macleod Trail S.W. After receiving her order, she allegedly stabbed a 24-year-old woman, causing serious injuries.

Minutes later, outside a pub in the same strip mall as the restaurant, the woman allegedly stabbed a 77-year-old man, seriously injuring him.

She then entered the north end of the Chinook Centre parkade about 15 minutes later, where she's believed to have stabbed a man in his 50s, seriously injuring him.

All three were taken to hospital in stable condition.

The woman was arrested shortly after and taken into custody.

The Calgary Police Service said it's believed the attacks were random.
