Family pleads for info in killing of Calgary man found beaten in someone else's home

Trevor JordanLomond was "funny, smart and full of love," according to his mother, Sherry Duperre, who gave an impassioned plea Friday for anyone with information about her son's death to come forward to police.

Calgary police have now ruled as homicide the death of Lomond, who was found severely beaten in the southwest community ofRosscarrocklast September.

Officers initially found the 33-year-old manunconscious and in life-threatening condition at a home in the 1600 block of 42nd Street S.W. on Sept. 13, 2016.

It appeared no one was home when the assault happened, police said at the time, and the residents of the home had told investigators they didn't know the victim.

Lomond died just over a week later in hospital.

"We chose as a family to take him off of life support one of the hardest things I've ever had to do," Duperresaid Friday, fighting back tears.

"Trevor was murdered," Insp. Don Coleman said on Friday, adding that police had their suspicionsright from the start, but waited until now to say so publicly for unspecified investigative reasons.

"It's nice to put things out to the public so everybody knows about it, but sometimes it comes at a bit of an expense to the investigation," he said.

Duperre said she spoke with Lomondby phone hours before the assault, and he told her he was going to visit someone else's home in the city's southwest.

"He told me he would call me later that day. He didn't call," she said.

"I didn't sleep well that night because we usually always said goodnight to each other. It just didn't feel right to me."

Lomond had two children: Rachel, 8, and Jordan, 11.

Duperre said the kids are doing about "as good as you can expect" after having lost their father.

She said Lomond"was starting to get his life back on track" after a few minor run-ins with the law, and had recently gone back to school to study accounting.

"It was nice to see him start to progress that way, but he never got to finish it," she said.

'Heart of gold'

Duperre said her son was a gregarious, kind person.

"Anyone who knew Trevor would know that he had a beautiful, soft heart a heart of gold, as I always told him," she said.

"He made friends easily, and could strike up a conversation with anyone.He was always there to help. He was funny, smart and full of love.Trevor was a very honest person who would always help out his friends if he could."

Coleman said it's still unclear how Lomondwound up at the Rosscarrockhome so badly beaten, but there are "for sure" people out there who have information.

"There's been varying degrees of co-operation from the individuals that live at that residence," Coleman said. "Some have co-operated; some haven't."
