Stampeders hide pistol patch on uniform to honour slain player Mylan Hicks

The Calgary Stampeders will hide the pistol patch on the shoulder of their alternate jersey for the rest of the season in honour of slain player Mylan Hicks.

Hicks, 23, wasshot to death outside the Marquee nightclubin the city's southwest on Sept. 25.

"The Stampeders' black jersey has been very popular with many of our fans and players since we became the first CFL team to wear an alternate jersey in 1994 and it will remain an important part of our identity," said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel in a release.

"Following the season, we will review all options in regards to potential changes to the design of the jersey."

The patch featuring a pair of crossed pistolswas added in 2014.

Hicks, 23, wasshot to death outside the Marquee nightclubin the city's southwest on Sept. 25.

NelsonLugela, 19, has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently awaiting trial.

Hickssigned with the Stampeders in May and was on Calgary's practice roster. Hehadn't played a game withthe CFL clubthis season.

Born in Detroit, Hicks was a standout withMichigan State University, where he recorded a career-high 19 tackles and four pass break-ups in nine games in his senior year in 2014.
