Tailgating leads to near-fatal stabbing in Calgary

Calgary police are seeking help in identifying a man who stabbed a driver through an open car window after a tailgating incident.

Calgary police are seeking help in identifying a man who stabbed a driver through an open car window after a tailgating incident.

It happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday in the northeast community of Renfrew.

Police say a 2017 Mazda was being followed closely by a grey Nissan SUV, so the driver of the Mazda pulled over to the side of the road in the 500 block of 10th Avenue N.E.

The driver of the Nissan pulled over, as well, and got out of his vehicle.

Police say he then walked up the the driver's side of the Mazda, leaned in through the vehicle's open window and stabbed the driver inside the car.

The injured driver was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition.

The attacker is described as being in his late 20s to early 30s, with tan skin and approximately six feettall and a slim build. He was wearing a grey hoodie, red baseball cap, white sneakers, sunglasses and a blue surgical mask.
