It appears there really is no case too cold for Calgary police to crack.

After finding an abandoned bike near a house in the southeast community of Acadia recently, patrol officers went door-to-door, trying to find out the owner.

Little did they know where the search would take them.

After door knockingfailed to turn up any leads, the officers checked for surveillance video in the area, which also proved fruitless.

Not wanting to give up, the officers then did some database checks, which turned up a match.

The contact information for the owner, however, was out of date.

Turns out, the bike had been reported stolen back in 1999 and the owner had since moved to Ontario.

Officers here contacted officers there and the ownerwas tracked down.

In a Facebook post about the case, the bike appears to be in rideable shape.

"We offer this story as a reminder that thorough and accurate reporting of all crime can lead to successful conclusions," Calgary police said in thepost.

"Even if it may be many years after the fact."
