Suspect flees on city bus after southeast stabbing

A scuffle between two individuals in southeast Calgary on Wednesday evening resulted in a stabbing, police said, after which a suspect fled on a city bus into the downtown core.

"[We received a call] that there was some sort of disturbance," said Mike Lalande, acting inspector with Calgary police. "A witness said someone had been stabbed and [the suspect] got on the bus that went downtown."

The stabbing took place around 17th Avenue and 26th Street S.E., Lalande said.

Police were able to catch up to the bus and were waiting to arrest the suspect when they stepped off of the bus outside of the Central Library.

"We arrested somebody who matched the description of the offender," Lalande said.

The individual who was stabbed is stable and was transported to hospital, Lalande said. There is no update on their status at this time.

There is no information currently available on descriptions or ages of the two individuals involved.
