Calgary police officer charged in relation to 'domestic matter'

A Calgary police officer has been charged with criminal harassment and breach of trust in relation to a "domestic matter."

The charges stemfrom an incident on Sept. 1, 2015. According to the Calgary Police Service, the domestic conflict unit received a complaint about the incident on Dec. 19, 2016.

"Upon completion of the investigation, the CPS consulted the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor's office, which recommended charges," reads a news release.

The charges were laidMonday and police said the breach of trust charge is the result of an alleged use of Calgary police "information technology resources during the alleged offence."

Police said the name of the officer, who has been placed on administrative leave, would not be released in order to protect the privacy of the victim.
