Calgary police are investigating the city's latest homicide, after a man was shot and killed inCrescent Heights on Sunday.

Insp. Don Coleman with the homicide unit said officers found a man who had been shot after they were called to an apartment building in the 300 block of First Avenue N.E.

The victim has been identified asFrank Dwayne Blomme, 55, of Calgary. He died on scene.

Coleman said Blomme was known to police, but declined to elaborate further. He also said investigators are seeking witnesses to the shooting.

"We believe that there may have been other people in the apartment at the time of the shooting and are asking any witnesses to come forward," he said.

"It is believed some witnesses may not feel they can speak to investigators because of unresolved criminal charges. We would like to assure these witnesses that the main priority in speaking to them will be solving this homicide."

He said it's unclear at this time whether the people in the apartment were party to the crime or simply witnesses, one of the reasons he's urging them to come forward to clear the air.

"I believe the victim was targeted in this instance," said Coleman."I don't know that the intention was to actually commit a homicide. We'll have to figure that out and in order to do that we need the people involved to come forward and fill in some of the blanks for us."
