Calgary police arrest 3 people for impersonating officers

Three people are in custody after driving around with a light on their car, pulling people over.

Investigators believe the trio was trying to rob people they pulled over

Three people are in custodyaccused of impersonatingpolice officers and robbingdrivers last night.

A car with a flashing strobe light pulled vehicles over in Beddington, Harvest Hills and North Haven around 11p.m. Saturday night.

Once the vehicles were stopped, men from the car demanded money from the victims.In one incident, the driver was pulled from his vehicle, assaulted and robbed.

Police tracked the car to a home in Beddington Heights where they took three people into custody.

A vehicle and light matching the description of the ones involved in the incidents were also found at the home.The investigation is still ongoing.

Reminders from police

Police issued the following reminder after the incident:

  • Most traffic stops are conducted by police officers dressed in full uniform.
  • Officers all carry ID they must produce it if asked.
  • Marked CPS vehicles are always equipped with red and blue lights on top, which are always activated during traffic stops.
  • A driver should never get out of their vehicle during a traffic stop unless they are asked to do so by a police officer.
  • Red-blue strobe lights on unmarked police cars are located inside the grill or in the vehicle's interior.
  • Drivers who are unsure about a vehicle that is pulling them over can call 911.
