Calgary police say a shooting in the city's northwest on Friday that left one man dead is believed to be a targeted homicide.

At around 5 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the new northwest community of Carrington. When officers arrived at the scene, in the 14200 block of First Street N.W., they found a man dead, according to a Calgary Police Servicestatement Tuesday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Hoang Phuoc Dat Nguyen, 42.

Shortly after the shooting call came in, a vehicle fire was reported in Rocky View Country, between 176th Avenue and Township Road 264, police said.

Investigators believe the vehicle, a black Dodge Caravan, may be related to the shooting incident and are asking anyone who may have seen it to contact police.

"We are also asking for information from anyone who may have had contact with the victim in the two days leading up to the homicide," reads the statement.

Police were initially investigating the incident as a suspicious death but say an autopsy confirmed that it was a homicide.
