Calgary police arrest man shot in leg during firearms call

The man, who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by Calgary police, is facing seven criminal charges including three counts of robbery, two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order, according to a police release.

Calgary police say they have arrested a man who was shot in the leg last week by a responding officer in the city's northeast.

The man, who was transported tohospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot, was charged withthree counts of robbery, two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order, according to a police release.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting continue to be investigated by The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), police said.

On March 1, officers were called to the 100 block of Templebow Way N.E. at approximately 7 p.m.for multiple reports that a man "was engaging in erratic behaviour, including following a person while carrying a firearm, pointing a firearm at a person, assaulting a person with a firearm, and an attempted carjacking," said police.

When police encountered the suspect, one officer discharged their service weapon.

Police saidthey believe the man was involved in three altercations with different groups of people in the area near Temple Drive N.E. between 6:50 p.m. and 7 p.m. that evening, and was in possession of animitation firearm.

Ahandgun-style pellet gun was recovered from the scene, said the release.

The man is due to appear in court March 4.
