Calgary police investigating shooting in southeast community of Acadia

Calgary police are investigating after a man was shot in the southeast community of Acadia Monday.

Police said in a statement there were multiple calls from citizens reporting gun shots in the 500 block of Heritage Drive S.E. around 11:30 Monday morning.

Officers found what appeared to be firearm casings when they arrived at the sceneand canvassed the area for suspects.

EMS responded around 11:40 a.m.to the 8500 block of Atlas Drive S.E., where they found an injured man. Hewas taken to Foothills Medical Centre in stable condition.

Details are limited, but police said witness reportsindicate that an individual in a vehicle was shooting at someone. It is unclear how many people were in that vehicle.

Because the vehicle was on the move, policeare investigating multiple scenes in the area.

Larry Patterson, who said he grew up in the area,said he received a call from his mother around 11:30 a.m. Monday, shortly after he woke up.

"She says,'My car got shot,' so immediately you go from half-asleep to, 'Why, what happened?'" Patterson said. "This is out of the norm.

"This area of town is pretty well-known to be quiet and full of old people, not a whole lot of excitement really. This is probably some of the worst we've seen in a long time."

Jacob Signarowskisaid the shooting left him angry given the quiet nature of the community.

"There's so many families, there's so many kids, schools, within walking distance. That's just crazy to me," he said. "[Those bullets] could have gone through anywhere."

Dominic Goncalves, similarly, was shocked by the incident.

"I've lived here my entire life,since I was two years old," he said. "I haven't seen anything like this around here, ever."

Police said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Officials were not able to confirm if the shooting in Acadia is connected with a shooting later in the day on 17th Avenue southwest.
