New Year's Eve will look very different this year than most.

We shouldn't have to tell you this, but COVID-19 restrictions likelyshould bar you from finding astranger to lock lips with at midnight.

The City of Calgary won't be hosting its usual fireworks show. Instead, it's posted last year's fireworks display to YouTube in case you want to revisit apre-pandemic celebration. The city won't be issuing any fireworks permits while COVID-19 restrictions are in effect, so don't try to attempt an at-home pyrotechnics display, either.

The city's also sharing a list of safe ways to ring in the new year. Check out some of its suggestions below.

Enjoy the outdoors

The city has a list of safe outdoor activities, from fire pits, to skating rinks, to cross-country ski trails that can be enjoyed with members of your household.

Plan a virtual celebration

From planning an online video countdown, to a Zoom game night or virtual dance party to your favourite songs of the year, the city suggests celebrating virtually with those you love.

Or, you could join a virtual event like an onlinedrag show fundraiser, Music Mile's online watch party, a virtual brewmasters' dinneror an online show from a local artist.

Order pickup or delivery

New Year's is a fantastic occasion to support local by ordering curbside pickup or delivery. Some local restaurants or restaurant groups, like Roy's Korean Kitchen, Deane House or Concorde Group, are even offering specially curated New Year's Eve dinners to be enjoyed in your own home.

Plenty, like Proof, Alliumand Lulu Bar,are also offering at-home cocktail kits so you can try out your inner mixologist for the night.

Do a good deed

Some believe the way you ring in the new year sets the tone for the next 365 days, so why not start things off on the right foot by doing a good deed. You could donate to a food bank or charity, clear out and donate your 2020 clutter from your home or be a snow angel and shovel your neighbours' sidewalks.

Follow the health measures

Most importantly, the city is reminding Calgarians to followpublic health measures no social gatherings, stay two metres away from others, wear a mask, and stay home if sick.

Here's to a happy and healthy 2021.
