Finding a family doctor can be toughin Calgary -- but the University of Calgarys Faculty of Medicine hopes to make it a bit easier for 8,000 people.

The university has two family medicine teaching centres in Calgary that have hired a handful of family doctors to help teach family medicine residents.

With a funding boost from the Alberta government, the clinics were able to hire enough family doctors to take on 8,000 new patients.

The two sites recruiting patients include the central teaching clinic located downtown at the Sheldon Chumir Centre and the Sunridge Clinic located in the northeast.

In addition to family doctors, the clinics also have other health care workers on site, including nutritionists, pharmacists, psychologists and chronic care nurses.

Anyone in Calgary or the surrounding area can contact the clinics and become a patient.
