Suspect sought in random stabbing in downtown Calgary

Calgary police are looking for a man who randomly stabbed a woman downtown on Tuesday.

Calgary police are looking for a man who randomly stabbed a woman downtown on Tuesday.

Police saya woman was standing on the corner of Seven Avenue and First Street S.W. when she was approached from behind by the suspect.

He then stabbed her multiple times and fled.

A woman standing nearby yelled for help and officers responded and provided first aid. The woman was taken to hospital in stable condition.

"It is believed that this was a random attack, and that the victim and the suspect did not know each other," police said in a news release."The investigation has revealed they had no prior interaction leading up to the stabbing."

The suspect is described as white and approximately five feet sixwith a slim build. He hasblond or light-brown hair. At the time, he was wearing a white and black Metallica T-shirt, black shorts, white sneakers and a grey coat with a black and red stripe.

"The CCTV photos we were able to find are clear. Someone out there will know who this person is. Rest assured, we will find this person and we will hold him accountable for this completely unacceptable violence," said Insp. Clare Smart in the release.

"Everyone has the right to move freely about our downtown without the fear or threat of violence. This behaviour is not tolerated, and we will put a stop to it."
