The game of dogeball is gaining popularity among adults in Calgary.

Dodgeball is usually considered a sport popular among younger kids, but more adults are dodging balls these days.

Cole Jordan is part of a group that plays the game at an elementary school gym in Calgary.

"We clocked one guy who can throw the ball 80kilometresan hour," he says.

Jordan set up this game and is the co-founder of the Calgary Recreational Dodgeball League.

He started it three years ago with six teams.

"We have 39 teams signed up this season and that roughly translates to about 400 people," Jordan explains.

"If you were to catch a ball, your team members would come back on and the person who threw the ball would be out, other than that, no high throws because we don't want anyone injured."

Although it's not a very physical game when kids are playing, it's a different story when adults start throwing around balls as hard as they can.

"I was holding a ball in my hand to deflect an oncoming ball and it just came at me and clipped back my pinky and broke this bone right here," Chris Lamontagne explains.

But despite the broken bones and stinging bruises, players like Lamontagne say it's still fun and exciting.
