Centenarian Florence Diehl looks back on 50 Stampedes and a whole of change

Florence Diehl turned 100 on Tuesday and has some advice for those wishing to hit the milestone.

Florence Diehl celebrated her 100th birthday in the yard of her home in Forest Lawn, where she's lived for 58 years.

Florence Diehlturned 100 on Tuesday and has some advice for those wishing to hit the milestone.

"No smoking, no drinking, don't work too well, I shouldn't say don't work too hard because I did work hard, and young too when I left home.You know, we had to go and work," she said."But it was OK."

Diehl moved to Calgary in 1945 and said she's seen at least 50 Stampedes, not to mention a lot of changes.

She was celebrating her birthday in the backyard of the Forest Lawn home she's lived in for 58 years, surrounded by family from all parts of Canada.

"So many I don't even know them," she said.

'In 100 years you do a lot'

Does she have any memories that stand out?

"Oh, all kinds of things in my life. In 100 years you do a lot, you see a lot. Even Calgary, it was so small when I moved here in '46."

She said she's experiencedsome good andsome bad, but that she still has a lot of friends.

"They look after me like a little baby," she said.

Diehl still goes to McDonald's every day for coffee, and said she's "had a wonderful life, I think."

So, would she like to make a go at another 100 years?

"Oh. No. Not really."
