Calgary Catholic School District calls off late-entry pilot project

A one-year pilot project by the Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) allowinga later start-time for students once a week has been scrapped.

In a statement posted to its website,CCSDsaid that after listening to feedback, it would not proceed with the proposed, late-entry pilot project.

"We have overwhelmingly heard from our parents/guardians and staff, and we are listening," read the statement.

The pilot was intended torun during the 2024-2025 school year.

CCSD had put forwardthat students at all grade levels would start later in the morning one day a week, while teachers would start at their regular time and use those non-teaching hours for professional development.

Several parents of CCSD studentstold CBC that they were not happy with the scheme, with someconcernedabout potentialincreased child-care costs.
