Calgary artist's work stolen from N.W. construction site

A Calgary artist says she is disappointed one of her pieces was stolen from a public art display near a construction site in the city's northwest.

A local artist says she is disappointed someone would steal artwork meant to spruce up the community.

A Calgary artist says she is disappointed one of her pieces was stolen from a public art displaynear a construction site in the city's northwest.

Artists donate their time for 2020 Isite, a project whichhas beautified several construction projects around the city.

Zoe Laycock created an acrylic piece of a bird with human feet standing on a brain. Someone tookher pieceand10 other works sometime last week.

"All of the artists are doing it out of their own time and their own pocket for the good of the community," she said."And to have someone be so selfish to take that for a private purpose was kind of just disappointing."

But Laycock said she wouldn't hesitate to resubmit.

"It's for the good of the community and you shouldn't let one person ruin something that's for everyone," she said.

Paul Hughes, the organizer of the project, believes other artists will also want to help replace the stolen work.

He has alsofiled a report to Calgary police and says the pieces are worth thousands of dollars.
