Bull moose battle on Alberta highway caught on video

A fierce battle between two bull moose in Peter LougheedProvincial Park was filmedby a couple of hikers last weekend.

Tawny Tersmettewas heading to Mount Fortress for a hike at about 8 a.m. on Saturday when shehappened upon the two enormous males hurtling their antlers at each other by the side of the Smith-DorrienTrail.

I've seen elk and deer rut before, but never moose. These were the biggest bulls I've ever seen, Tersmette said.

We were driving down the highway and rounded the corner to see the moose tumble down the right side of the road. The fight lasted over 20 minutes. The one with the larger antlers won the battle."

During the autumn breeding season males will challenge each other as they seek females to mate with.
