Firefighters are responding to a brush fire on the east side of the Tsuu T'ina First Nationnear southwest Calgary.

The firebroke out Saturday afternoon, but is under control and no longerthreatening any homes or buildings.

"At one point, it was threatening a residence which is when the Calgary Fire Department got involved," said Calgary battalion chief Lee Cheshire.

Four fire departments are involved in putting out the fire: Redwood Fire Department, Calgary Fire Department, Tsuu T'ina Fire Departmentand Alberta's Sustainable Resource Development (SRD) teamwhich fought the fire from the air.

While there was a possibility the fire could jump the highway away from the forested area, firefighters say if conditions remain calm they should be able to keep the fire under control.

"It's under control as far as the fact there's no inhabited buildings threatened," Cheshire says. "It's just brush and grass."

Crews are estimating it will take between four and five hours to put out the fire.

If conditions remain calm, firefighters would return Sunday morning to check the ground and make sure that the fire is still out.

The Redwood Fire Department is contracted to provide fire support to the Tsuu T'ina First Nation and has a bush buggy on the ground.
