Blowing snow advisory issued for Calgary

Drivers heading north of Calgary on Thursday were advised to use caution, after a blowing snow advisorywas issued.

Conditions expected to get better by Thursday evening

A blowing snow advisory has been issued for Calgary and areas north of the city. Visibility may be affected. (511 Alberta)

Drivers in Calgaryand those headed north of the city on Thursday were advised to use caution, after a blowing snow advisorywas issued.

Environment Canada put out an alert that windgusts as high as60 km/h combined with falling snow could create poor visibility.

The alert wasissued for the following places:

  • City of Calgary.
  • Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre.
  • Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler.
  • Rocky Mountain House - Caroline.

It wasexpected conditions would worsen alongthe QEIIcorridoralso known as theQueen Elizabeth IIHighway which runs between Calgary and Edmonton.

Areas west of the highway were also under the advisory.

Environment Canada said travel was expected to be hazardous and drivers should apply caution and be prepared to adjust their driving.

The snow and wind were expected to taper off Thursday evening.
