A 12-year-old boy was the target of an attempted child abduction near a Sylvan Lake school Wednesday afternoon, police said in a release.

A man, roughly 25 to 30 years of age, approached the boy near Mother Theresa School at about 4 p.m.

He grabbed the boy's arm and tried to pull him into the man's older model Honda four-door car.

The boy got away and made it to safety, Sylvan Lake RCMP said.

Police say the man has a medium to heavy build, is balding and was wearing a black hoodie and sunglasses.

One of the tires of the suspect's car has a black rim.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at the Sylvan Lake RCMP 403-858-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
