Anthony Fernandez murder probe stalled, police seek tips from public

Calgary police are looking for help in solving a murder that happened at Christmas two years ago.

Anthony James Fernandez was found dead in a vehicle on Colgrove Avenue northeast in Bridgeland on Dec. 27, 2013.

He had been reported missing on Christmas Eve.

An autopsy revealed he was killed early on Christmas Day where he was found.

Joining police on Monday to ask for help from the public in solving his murder,Daisy Fernandez, the victim's mother, said her son's big smile and personality lit up any room.

"We are frustrated at how long this has taken to solve this crime. And frustrated that the person who killed Anthony is still walking the streets," she said.

The maroon 2009 Mazda 6 Fernandezwas discovered in had beenset on fire, destroying much of the evidence, police say.

Police say they were investigating several people of interest, but they have all now been cleared and the investigation has stalled.

Acting Staff Sgt.Kurt Jacobswith the homicide unit says police have exhausted all of their leads.

"We'reat the place right now where we're in a bit of a holding pattern. We're hoping that with releasing some of these further details to the public will be able to assist us in moving this file forward," he said.

"Sometimes friendships change and maybe a year and a half ago, with someone not being comfortable to speak to police, maybe they're in a position where they may be now."
