Alberta sees highest jump in beer sales

Alberta posted the highest year-over-year increase in beer sales in the country at 7 per cent, according to new numbers released by Statistics Canada.

Albertaposted the highest year-over-year increase in beer sales in the country at 7 per cent, according to new numbersreleased by Statistics Canada.

There was also an increase in wine and hard liquor sales. On average,Albertans bought 5.7 per cent more alcohol than the year beforespending more than $2 billion in total sales.

The findings measured alcohol sales for the year endinginMarch 2012. In total, Canadians spent almost $21 billion on alcohol.

Newfoundland and Labrador posted the biggest jump inwine sales at nearly 13 per cent.
