RCMP say police vehicle was intentionally rammed

Airdrie RCMP said they are investigating after one of their police vehicles was intentionally rammed by a truck in a No Frills grocery store parking lot at approximately 5 p.m. on Thursday.

"We were there investigating an unrelated matter," saidRCMPCpl. Chris Warren. "[Our vehicle] was rammed by the suspect vehicle, and the suspect vehicle took off from police."

No RCMP members wereinjured during the incident.

RCMPdescribed the truck as a burgundy Ford F-250 pickup and said police resources were deployed to locate the vehicle.

Data obtained by the CBC indicates that RCMP collisions number in the dozens annually and Alberta leads the way.

Those figures indicate that between 2013 and 2018, there were 197 collisions involving police vehicle pursuits, 87 of which were in Alberta.

"Officer safety is always a concern anytime we're engaged in our duties," Warren said.
