A Calgary animal shelter says it is bursting at the seams with cats and is holding an adoption event Saturday for anyone looking for a new furry friend.

The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) says it has about 300 cats in its care and needs to find them forever homes. Some of those cats are in foster care while others are ready for adoption at the facility.

"When cats are adopted, then they'll free up homes in our foster care system so we can actually bring in more cats and more kittens," said Katie Ayres, operations manager at AARCS. "We're at a point right now where we really can't take in any more until we get some more adopted out."

The cats and kittens will be available for lower than normal fees.

Adult cats will go for a minimum donation of $25 and the adoption fees for kittens will be reduced.

The adoption event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. MT at 3851 21 Street N.E.
