A Calgary oil and gas company has made a $5-million donation to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.

Gift from Trican Well Service Ltd. will support childhood cancer care and research

A Calgary oil and gas company has made a $5-million donation to the Alberta Childrens Hospital Foundation.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Trican Well Service Ltd. announced the gift is in support of childhood cancer care at the hospital, as well as research at the hospitals research institute for child and maternal health and the Southern Alberta Cancer Research Institute both at the University of Calgary.

An oncology, hematology and blood marrow transplant clinic will be named after Trican in recognition of the donation. "Trican is honoured to help advance care for the brave kids and families fighting cancer," said Dale Dusterhoft, the company's CEO.

Trican's gift is the largest the foundation has ever received for oncology, said Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation president Saifa Koonar.
