Large quantity of suspected fentanyl, heroin, crack and cash seized by Surrey RCMP

Surrey RCMP say they made a significant drug bust last month seizing more than 5,000 doses of suspected fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and cash.

Surrey RCMP say they made a significant drug bust last month seizing more than 5,000 doses of suspected fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and cash.

Search warrants were executed at two locations along 127Street after an investigation into drug traffickers who police believe were selling in the 135A Street area of the Whalley neighbourhood.

"Surrey has had the second highest number of overdose deaths in B.C.," said Inspector Shawna Baher. "The 135A Street area and the people that frequent that area have been significantly impacted by the ongoing fentanyl health crisis."

In total Surrey RCMP say they seized:

  • 4,140 doses of suspected heroin/fentanyl
  • 521 doses of methamphetamine
  • 410 doses of crack cocaine
  • $16,000 in cash

Surrey residents WandaStopa, 47, and Lee RoyBraaten, 54, have bothbeen charged with multiple counts ofpossession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. An unidentified 30-year-old man has also been arrested.

Stopa, who was featured inrecent CBC stories about life on the Whalley strip, was found to be in possession of 300 doses of suspected heroin/fentanyl at the time of her arrest.

Surrey RCMPSgt. Alanna Dunlop says the drugs seized will be tested to confirm the presence of fentanyl.
