15-year-old dies after tree falls on him near Surrey school

A 15-year-old boy has died after being hit by a falling tree in Surrey, B.C., as high winds swept the Lower Mainland on Friday.

A 15-year-old boy has died after beinghit by a falling tree in Surrey, B.C., as high winds swept the Lower Mainland onFriday.

The call came infrom Clayton Heights Secondary school around 2:30 p.m PT,saiddeputy Fire Chief Larry Thomas.

First responders raced toremove the tree from the injured student.

The teen was found with the tree still on top of him and four men were needed to remove it, he said.

The young man, who was hit in a wooded area near the school, was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Surrey Fire officials remain busy with calls about falling debris and wires, describing it as three-times busier than usual because of the storm.
